France will open its first prison dedicated to isolating the country’s top 100 drug lords in July as part of efforts to stop inmates from running criminal networks from behind bars. However some unions and advocates of prison reform have expressed doubts over the initiative.

I feel the EU must have a remote island we can use for people like this. Then again, france could use Reunion for this.

We have islands with no population. No need to be even worse with Réunion (or any Island with local population)

Reunion was the only french territory faaaaaaar away I can name. If you have another desolate rock in a far away ocean that would be better.

Seems like a good place for high risk prisoners in general. Court via secure connection for the rest all comms and anything in and out can be easily managed. Maybe even an EU project the Netherlands has some life sentences heavy criminals… Dutroux, Fritzl, Breivik and a few of Europe’s finest can be housed there.
