I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume you think you are on reddit and the pinnacle of all wit and intelligence is “well ackshually”

And I’ll just sum it up for you:

    1. That “political situations that happened less than 100 years ago”. That was the Xinhai Revolution. It was a violent uprising that led to the death of a lot of “noble families”. Which… I am not going to say if I have many problems with that in spirt. But it was led to ongoing civil war and eventually the rise of the Chinese Communist Party which very much is something I have MANY problems with. And many of the people who fled to Taiwan as a result of that were fleeing ethnic cleansing and purges. And more recent “political situations” include regular military operations to try to intimidate Taiwan and the expectation that Taiwan will be a flashpoint in the very near future.
    2. Speaking of ethnic cleansing. In all this talk of how Taiwan is “ethnically Chinese” as a dog whistle, it is kind of funny nobody picked up on the Uyghur reference. Weird.
    3. But back to Taiwan. Pretty much since its existence, but especially since the rise of the CCP, it has been China’s official stance that Taiwan is part of China and any nation that claims otherwise is actively antagonizing China. This is why so many countries walk on eggshells regarding whether they recognize Taiwan or not (even as they do business and offer military support) and why John Cena almost ACTUALLY disappeared after he accidentally acknowledged China in a press junket.
    4. Which comes to context. I realize that might be hard for you to understand, but this all kicked off with some a-hole (from mainland China where you do what the CCP says or “ba bada ba” you have fewer rights than a Uyghur) repetaedly referred to TSMC as “Chinese” and then said “I honestly believe that most, if not all high-skill positions would be filled by Chinese people.”. Which, at best, is really fucked up racism that downplays the Taiwanese and, more likely, is a refusal to acknowledge that Taiwan is a sovereign nation
    5. And a bit more context. I’ve mentioned “the semiconductor shield” a few times. TSMC is a particularly sore point with China because of it. Russia can fuck with Ukraine and MAYBE get some sanctions (they didn’t the last few times…). If China attacks TSMC it basically ends civilization as we know it and EVERYONE who cares about high end chips are going to get up in their face.

So hey. I hope you find a way to live your life not spewing CCP propaganda. Or being a useful idiot.
