Mainly got into this because I wanted to try out the new isle of man tt sim. went to www.yasdl.com and found it. Installed all of the parts but however I attempt to open them (winrar, then extracting the files (winrar, then using ultraiso, then using the setup.exe within, it always says that it isnt a Freearc archive/it’s corrupt) am I missing something major? I don’t really understand how to use torrents either. Apologies
After you have a torrent client, like qBittorrent, you should be able to click on
"magnet links"
on torrent sites, and then the web browser will automatically ask if you want to open the magnet link with qBittorrent. For me the same thing happens, except I’m using one called
Transmission
.Anyway, after that you might have to choose to which directory/folder it gets downloaded if it’s your first time.
Then it will start downloading. Of course how fast it’s downloading depends on the number of
Seeder
s andLeecher
s.Seeders are people with the files who are allowing others to download it from them, if there’s no seeders then you won’t be downloading anything.
ok, thanks for the insight. I’m guessing I’ll need a paid vpn? Proton failed on me mid upload so now I wait in fear of the letter.
Proton? Why are you using Proton? Does qBittorrent only have a Windows version? In that case don’t use qBittorrent, or if it has a Linux version (I assume you’re on Linux since you’re using Proton) get that one.
If you’re on Linux, at least Arch Linux like me (but I assume most OSes will have it), you can use the
transmission-qt
package.There’s also a gtk version.
Anyway I’ve never used a VPN for torrents and never had a problem, but it probably depends on where you live and your ISP. Also I should note that I don’t have a static IP address, which means every time I start my PC I’m getting a new IP, which probably doesn’t hurt.
Though obviously the ISP always knows what my IP address is, so if they do have a problem with it then I would probably need to use a VPN.
oh yeah, good point. I’m on windows actually. Just paranoid because I work for my ISP
You can bind qB to your VPN connection, so that if the VPN fails qB would not attempt to use your unsecured line.
(Sorry not in front of a PC right now. Don’t remember the exact settings page, but it’s a dropdown with a list of available connections on your computer)
I’ll take a look. I’m guessing there are no free p2p vpns? Don’t want to rush out and get a prepaid visa until I’m fully comfortable with everything. Would mainly be for games, and without access to steam achievements, I’m still on the fence about all of this.
Free VPNs are not real, but legit VPNs are cheap (~$5/month)
