It’s not about looks, it’s about functionality. I could add a hundred lines of CSS to make it sparkle without touching Javascript. I could think of a dozen convenience features that would require Javascript, but none that, if disabled, would prevent the search bar from functioning as a search bar.

This is a fully functional search bar. This is all it needs to be. It doesn’t need Javascript, only if you want suggestions.

The last time I checked, Google still works if you simply pass your query in the URL using the q variable. Google has no need to enforce Javascript.

The relevant part in simple terms: if an app is distributed on the App Store, all in-app purchases must be made through the App Store (so Apple can have their 30%), the app can’t bypass this, and the app can’t contain links/buttons/calls to action to have the user bypass it. Epic implemented their own independent in-app purchase solution that violated this, and they got kicked out.

Whether or not the 30% cut is fair is not relevant to the topic. I think it’s a baseless amount, and Apple’s walled garden is clearly anti-competitive and anti-consumer. The point is that Epic’s violation of the TOS was a premeditated action in order to inject their fake “for the players” narrative into their litigations and rally the Fortnite-addicted kids who didn’t know better. They had an 80-page lawsuit and a pissing CGI short film ready on the day. Apple wants all of the money, Epic wants all of the money, and they’re not above using every dirty trick they know.

Apple’s (and Google&Co’s) walled garden policies are absolute bullshit and should be outlawed, but in this, Epic is in the wrong. They agreed to a contract, they didn’t like it, so they chose to break it. Besides, saying that you “support something” does fuck all. Go and do something. Call a politician and get the law changed, you rebel.

They don’t. It’s the same category as jailbreaking an iPhone: possible, legal, might brick your console, Sony hates it.

At this point, the distinction between console and PC comes down to the corporate side. The PS4 and PS5 operating systems are based on a BSD (probably FreeBSD but not sure), and are capable of running a desktop OS (as long as hackers find a way to bypass Sony’s locked-down firmware). XBox One and Series use a Windows-based OS, also locked down by Microsoft to only run the applications they want.

Everything about the Steam Deck is designed with gaming in mind, but in terms of capabilities, it’s no different from a PC. You could hook it up to a USB-C dock and use it for work. I’d sooner call it a handheld PC than a console.

I looked up photos of about a dozen separate metro stations in DC, and… they’re all the same design. I get pragmatism, but those are downright depressing. The only one I liked was Anacostia because the yellow overhead lights and the bright blue advertisement screen made interesting patterns reflecting off the water-damaged walls.

Compare that to Moscow: underground palaces. Marble, statues, reliefs, arches and columns, chandeliers everywhere. Hate the Soviets all you like, but they knew how to build beautiful.

I even like the ancient 81-series rolling stock, if only because of nostalgia.

They’ll wait for the tech to mature other manufacturers to figure it out, starve people for a few more years, then release it with a +400% markup and act like they came up with the idea. That’s how it’s always been.

Although I don’t see a future where bendable fucking glass screens become anything more than a gimmick.

You could try getting the APKs from APKMirror and installing them from a file manager.

They could be, easily. Sony wouldn’t likely win, but all they really need to do is bury the operators in legal fees and subpoenas.

Settings, Apps, Galaxy Store, Disable. It should revert it to the stock version and disable it. Unless your phone has some additional restrictions that prevents disabling it.

What do you suppose they should do instead? Get sued out of existence?
