I like OP’s idea but I wonder about the legality of it and how it might be used against BookWyrm by private entities. Interoperability/plugins that act as middle-men + open library seems like the way.
I don’t member the exact model but I had an LG Voyager that i held onto for a long time… I did NOT want to give up my physical keyboard for the touchscreen keyboard so I held out as long as I could. If Samsung came out with a slide-out keyboard for smartphones I’d be on that shit right away.
good to know, i’ll have to check it out
i’m almost full fedi, even left instagram. it’s just discord and youtube that are gonna be hardest to replace for me. been looking at peertube for uploading video game streams but the upload limit…

i also like that reading the articles in my feed reader doesn’t give away any tracking information. can get the same info without visiting the source website at all. and when i do open links there’s no source to show where i opened it from.
ultimately it’s so much easier having most news sources in one place instead of subscribing to hella newsletters.
as someone who has noticed far too many articles mentioning police having killed people who look like me and my family members, this is what us black folks like to see.
It helps to have a meaty subscription list to switch to for when All goes through a meme-y period, but overall I agree and was just thinking of this yesterday actually. Except I was thinking about art and how I used to see more art on the frontpage at Reddit. Would love to see more OC art get hot over here too (in addition to hot topics of course).
In my experience it isn’t if it’ll work, it’s if it’ll have enough space for all my music. I still have a couple old iPods, including the original Touch, but I have way more than 16GB worth of music now.
If you just want something simple for your own music with no ads, check out iBroadcast.
I write with pen and paper because its faster for me and it’s much more tactile.
I dropped Spotify and starting using iBroadcast and haven’t looked back. Glad to cut another subscription.
“the fediverse isn’t ready to take over yet” - so put time and attention into making it ready instead of trying to build something completely new. If enough businesses and public figures put their resources into getting the fediverse beefed up (or dumbed down/simplified) to where the public needs it to be to meet their needs, it could happen much sooner. And it’d be better in the long run than whatever replacement will just follow the exact same villain character arc as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter - sell more shit to you and let the app fucking break.
