1 year agoI think the thing to stop this happening is for the user to own the identity they use on Lemmy - so if you do not like what gas happened on the instance you signed up on, you can easily move to another instance or social media.
Lemmy is open source. Lots of people run instances, so there are a lot of choices.

I run an instance that is probably the polar opposite of Lemmy.ml.
Yes Lemmy.ml blocked us from federating, but when it comes to getting a Lemmy instance up and running successfully, 99.99% of the time the developers have been both helpful and generous with their time.
Give them a break. They have created some great open source software that can serve as a foundation of an exciting future.
