  • The mother looks like a Karen and her kids behave like little karens.

I’ll throw the first stone, yes, I’ve shamefully spent money on games. Mostly mobile games, where it’s far worse than Roblox and World of Tanks combined. I play 8-Ball from Miniclip and they shove ad after ad after ad at you to buy chips, buy chests, buy cues .etc

They have mini-games like Lucky Shot, where you have to hit the ball into one of the targets. Doesn’t matter how soft you hit it, it’s a bitch to get the ball into the target zone. They have a spinning wheel for chips, it ALWAYS lands on the lower valued number. Always. Like, all of these obviously rigged tricks and scams into the game. And you finally play a game or two and you’ll run into players with the best shit who’ll win games over you in seconds. Because they’ve got the better shit. It’s just hard to compete with the whales.

These mobile games like to make you feel special at first. But if you play it long enough, you will hit a wall. And when you hit that wall, it’s like dealing with a constant panhandler, only in the form of this game, where they want you to pay and pay.

  • Because it exploits how dumb the internet toy such as a karma system really is.

I like the Fediverse’s handling of it. Look, I can post however much I want. Unlike Reddit, where I got to storm to AskReddit because it doesn’t care about how much karma you’ve got, farm karma, wait for a period and then finally be able to post where I want to.

People have sadly tied their existence to this system. I mean, the higher a karma count is for someone, I’ve noted how much of a snobbish bastard people love to come off as. Like as if it makes them superior, regardless of the shit takes and awful arguments they project.

Karma systems invalidate thought and discussion. Do you really mean to say what you’ve said because you mean it? Or did you say it because you know it’ll garner the most points? Quite frankly, I’d rather be saying what I want to say because some of the time, I do mean it. On Reddit, I always have had to fake myself and say stupid shit just so I can have enough points to finally post elsewhere. So many people on Reddit will say anything and do anything to make themselves feel better about themselves by phoning in thoughts, opinions and expressions. But I doubt they actually believe into half of the shit they say or do.

And when you get downvoted? Welp, be prepared to karma farm again because some subreddits will not allow you to post or just throw you into the spam filter bin because you get prompted by a 9 minute timer before you can post again. It’s just an atrocious system all around that has bastardized the way people communicate with eachother. So, Fuck Reddit’s Karma system, it doesn’t belong here.

  • If the API fiasco hasn’t really deterred enough Reddit users to convert, then almost nothing will. Except maybe when Spez gets around to monetizing NSFW subreddits and subreddits in general that are very large. But even then, I still say it won’t be a giant deal. They’ll come here but they’ll want the Fediverse to strongly appeal to NSFW content and really the Fediverse is fine without it poisoning itself with that filth.

  • …Does anyone even know what the hell Autism even is anymore? Two decades later, seems like it’s not. It’s just the ‘everything we deem not normal, someone is on the spectrum’ diagnosis.

A therapist, I kid you not, thought that because I had a conscience in my mind (an inner voice) felt I was on the spectrum. That’s how much bullshit this Autism thing has gotten. A totally normal thing that I was told, convinced a therapist that I’m on the spectrum. Just anything can be fucking autistic apparently.

  • I’ve moderated subreddits, I’ve moderated chat rooms and have had managerial experiences in other things over the years online.

People hated me moderating because I ‘took out the trash’ that people, including other moderators, considered the life of a community. People being meme shitlords, people trolling, people gaslighting, people instigating matters .etc

And they all got by because of friendly nepotism and shitty comradery among shitty people who love other shitty people.

I’m not the kind of moderator that I see in most moderators now, who have a brain aneurysm over some expressions and thoughts that they see others express that they deliberately misinterpret. All so that they can construct their self-justifying reasons to ban over.

And that is power-tripping, to me.

  • Invest in electric heaters.

If you already had a place picked that’s in the north, make sure you settle in as early as a month or two before it’s winter season starts.

Do not ever neglect snow tires. If you’re tight on money, getting even 2 sets of tires for wintry conditions is better than none. But 4 is still recommended and no, All-Seasons are terrible for winters regardless of brand. They just aren’t designed for winter conditions, they’re designed mostly for Spring/Summer/Fall.

Buy winter emergency sets for your vehicle. Buy one for the glove compartment, the ones where they actually have emergency power banks in them. Buy another for general use, especially ones equipped with a piece together shovel.

Use HEET only in 30 below temperatures.

  • But did anyone ever say that you HAD to subscribe to everything? No.

I must be one of the few people in a group who have a better control in what they feel they can subscribe to.

Adobe expects me to pay monthly for Photoshop? No, fuck you, I’ve got GIMP and a number of other paint and photo manipulation programs.

Microsoft expects me to pay for Office 365? No, fuck you, I’ve got LibreOffice and your older Office software still works as good. Your word processing program, Word, hasn’t really changed that much since 2007 or even 2003. Hell, maybe not since 1997!

I understand this video highlights some of the more draconian practices of subscription services and they deserve to be. But also, people really really need to learn about alternatives instead of feeling like they’ve got to subscribe to something that they never had to in the first place.

Also, no, you do not need smart-everything. Leave all of the smart-appliance shit for the richies who happily throw money down on that and let them waste their time and money on the susbcriptions involving them. You don’t need them, have some self-respect and know that the dumb versions of those smart things still are just as good and effective.
