Also ways to disable the call recording prompt they forced into it. They force that even in one party regions where you can record your own calls without needing permission from the other person.

Just thought I’d drop in to say, it’s possible to play it with your feet.
Yeah I don’t think this person knows what they’re talking about, they must either think ByteDance is hosting the source code on Oracle’s servers or they somehow think that binaries are the same as source code 🤷
Where did you get the idea that Oracle can see their source code? That only applies if they host their source repository on Oracle, if they host the servers there chances are it’s binaries that are hosted on the server not the source code.
Mastodon.social had a whole thing a while back where they had NDA meetings with Facebook in regards to threads federation.
It’s later come out that they are censoring Palestine content on their platform.
So yeah people who often push for Federation with bad actors like Facebook are very often bad actors themselves.
Thankfully Lemmy.world hasn’t been pushing any pro-Israel content, or censoring Palestine support, at least not yet (hopefully never).
Two people listening at once, or DJing. It is very gimmicky but has its uses
That’s it, right there. Artificial exclusivity, that’s what it always was anything else is an excuse to look or seem better or less scummy.
People are going to try to make up reasons, all of them are an excuse to cover up the real reason which is copying apple and forcing people into Bluetooth to sell more expensive tech junk to people. The original and really only reason.
You’re not wrong, lots of people on Lemmy.world just really kiss up to fairphone because of their perceived betterness in other ways. Just because they claim to be doing some things better doesn’t mean they aren’t doing anything wrong or scummy.
Also I bet there’s quite a few apple fanboys here who support copying apple in removing features, for some strange reason.
Probably but they certainly don’t want you to know that and almost certainly will say that you can’t.
Obviously but it could become very hard to do that with Smart TVs dominating the space now.
I get that it’s probably technically possible to bypass
Not exactly a bypass it’s more so destruction of property (your own property might I add, since there’s no clause that says you have to return it to the company at some point)
it’d actually be illegal to bypass and almost nobody would do it.
Yeah we’re definitely not at the point in time yet where it is illegal to vandalize your own things, hacking in some places, but vandalism of your own property not so much (exceptions only for rentals or leases, which TVs aren’t since you never need to return them).
They already have that it’s called click fraud or automated ad clicking, mostly though it’s websites that earned money from advertisers who engage in this, as a sleazy way of making more money.
Though if you want to partake in it there are ad blocking extensions that also do it. It’s not perfect but it is quite damaging to the advertising industry.
You can tear the wifi antenna off the board, and it’ll never connect again (not just unplug it from the card, actually tear it off the pads), could also remove the shield from the Wifi module as well for good measure and it would never get a good signal ever again.
If you’re feeling really brave you could even try removing or cutting the traces connecting the Wireless module to the main system bus, has diminishing returns though since it would be very easy to short or destroy the PCI bus rendering the system completely inoperable.
Probably injecting the ads into blank screen periods.
Maybe we should bring back screensavers, would really fuck with devices like this that look for blank screen time that would simply never occur.
Pretendo is open source.
It’s not even needed to do that, banning or removing from the DB directly bypasses the modlog, and also password and email resets aren’t recorded in the modlog and also won’t even show up as ‘banned’ on profiles, so if they wanted to ban people without others noticing they could just remove their email and reset their password to something they don’t know and never respond to support questions.
I could also just block the threads.net domain, no?
Nope domain blocking in Lemmy only does anything for communities. Plus blocking on Lemmy isn’t even really blocking, it’s a more extreme mute function that is deceptively called “block”.
Trying to avoid people seeing it because they’ll get more backlash and probably lose donators and rightfully so. These types of knee-jerk reactions combined with the refusal to address feedback are very concerning.
I find it strange that many people here are against this when the alternative is a surgical treatment that often can’t be easily reversed, and even when it is, often lowers the likelihood they will have a kid.
Chemical solutions are way better in that regard because if they are done right they don’t damage any tissue and their affects are temporary.
