Empires need dominion over foreign states, expanding their borders. America would love to be an empire, they are just a wee little dictatorship with an inept conman in charge. I’m hardly worried, mostly just sad to watch it happen in real time.

Small folk in fairy tales are the yeomen of the worlds. People of the land. Makes sense they are more focused on earthly pleasures than world domination, like most regular folks naturally are.
