I keep one I bought on Amazon in my car. I park illegally and put my boot on to make them think they already got me.

In my home town people used to steal parking tickets from people’s windscreens to put on their cars, to make it seem like they’ve already been ticketed – same thing but more malicious as the ticket will go to collection for the original owner as they had no way of knowing about the ticket

Do they not get mail besides the ticket? In my country the ticket on a windshield alone wouldn’t be legally relevant.

No, the first mailed fine would be the payment reminder from the collection agency with some additional fees attached, after which it will move to proper collection. This applies only to parking fines issues by the city/municipality. Private parking spots have a different system, but they usually also rely on just a note on the windscreen.

I think it’s part of the Finnish society often resorting to an honor system in these kinds of things. For private operators also due to the fact that previously the fine couldn’t be assigned to the car owner, and had to be assigned to the driver personally. Nowadays a lot of places just automatically scan the plates and you pay either via app or a website.

Infuriatingly getting cars towed is also very difficult in finland, and I mean multiple layers of red tape and a few weeks of time spent difficult. Due to the fact that the tower is responsible for any sustained damage, that can be as little as a scratch in wheels or similar, and can’t bill the car’s owner unless they’ve been duly notified, it’s practically an impossibility for anything other than abandoned vehicles. If somebody else is in your spot you just have to find another one, even if you’re paying good money for it.

The ticket stealing thing no longer happens AFAIK, since the PEO just scans the plates to see if you’ve paid for parking nowadays.

Some boots cover the lugnuts too, specifically so you can’t do this.

I had one of those by a shitty apartment complex I lived it. I let the air out of the tire, jacked up the car, and wiggled it off without a problem. Threw the lock in a bush, aired up the tire, and drove away.

I still think about it those picks from time to time and smile at getting one over them.

Do you ever think about this and feel like it was definitely the highest point of your life? And everything since is going downhill… I wish I had a gigantic success like that once in my lifetime, but I’m afraid I won’t like what it means in terms of setting an unreachable standard for my future successes

Not OP but I do. Well, I don’t think about this situation…but a situation I was in which I (and many others) consider my greatest success, unfortunately.

My life has gone downhill since then.

Has no one ever, like, died because they had an emergency and couldn’t get to the hospital because someone booted their car?

How is it legal? Just take down the license plate and send a parking ticket. What gives someone the right to basically hijack someone’s car.

Just once, I want to see somebody put a boot on a parking cops car while the cop is putting a boot on theirs.

In Australia they have mobile speed cameras in vans. Anyways some cheeky lads pulled over and started asking the operator if they could have a look as they were engineering students at the uni and were curious about the hardware. While they were talking to the operator one of the lads took the back numberplate off the van, they quickly went and threw the plate on another car and then sped past the camera, went around the block and did it again about half a dozen times.

Iirc they were never caught and it made national news. Now the vans have an array of 4k cameras on them.

They already wrote down captain jack sparrow’s license plate. Which is associated with your name, address and other information. If they couldn’t catch someone that did this, they’re morons.
