Ryzen 8040 series is already out. There’s hardly any device available on any e-commerce or local shops with the above chipset? In fact, there’s hardly a few 7030 and 7035 series based devices available? What is happening?
Edit: 7040 and 8040 are the same, with the latter having a slightly better NPU. Almost like a rebrand.
The Z1 is likely a 7540U but the Z1 Extreme is definitely a 7840U. The thing is they’re likely binning a good portion of the 7840U chips and the ones that perform well at lower wattages get to become Z1s

Updated my old comment a bit. Apart from the slight XDNA NPU improvement, 7040 and 8040 are the same APU lol. Basically, the lower models, which do not come with the AI engine - the 7440U and 7540U, are strikingly similar to 8440U and 8540U, also without the AI engine.
But these models still haven’t come to India - we’re stuck with the 7020, 7030 and 7035 leftovers. 7040 and 7045 is not available. I was genuinely interested in buying lower-end APUs from AMD from the Zen4 series.
I can tell you it really is a compute beast all things considered TDP wise and such. I have an Ally with the Z1E and the compute performance under plugged in turbo conditions is out of this world. Perf is very similar to a 5700 it blows my mind.
