Your average person, let alone tech illiterate boomers, is never going to hop on to federated services.

The party of law and order.
It’s not made by Bytedance. It’s made by one company and published by a second, different company who is owned by Bytedance.
I believe I read that the ban prohibited new downloads but wouldn’t stop existing users from continuing to use, however the parent company kinda put a middle finger up and said they would stop service in the US completely, probably by IP/geofencing? Take with grain of salt.
Well I was actually concerned about your mental health for a little bit there but now I’m pretty confident you’re just a troll, so trust me this really will be the last time. Ciao.
I do not know how to explain to you that I am not going to argue with you about what a gotcha is. I already said that. I cannot believe that’s what you’re still on. But I will suggest you read about what the “royal you” is.
I don’t know what you’re on about mate, and this has gone on too far. I hope your day, week, or whatever turns around. Have a good one.
Lying? Mate what in the hell are you on about, seriously? I was kinda half joking before but I’m actually serious now, I think you need some fresh air. I genuinely have no clue what you’re on about anymore. No one’s lying and no one accused anyone else of lying in this conversation.
… What? My guy you might want to go get some fresh air, I’m concerned you just had a micro stroke.
Okay I’m not going to argue with you about what is or isn’t a gotcha, you seem to be really hung up on that. I’m saying they’re not being hypocrites and just pointing out that they aren’t banning western companies from collecting data is missing a whole lot of nuance. It’s not as simple as “if you ban one you gotta ban them all, otherwise you’re a hypocrite”.
Your comment seemed to be pretty pointedly trying to make a case for the hypocrisy of the government.
I don’t why people are acting so surprised that a government might be okay with “friendly”, so to speak, companies collecting citizens’ data and not comfortable with a company that is cozy with a foreign, historically antagonistic country.
Like, this isn’t the hypocrisy gotcha that you think it is.
Then would you agree that it doesn’t have to do with Adobe Acrobat, as much at it does active script in PDFs and if the reader executes it?
I self host many services without any coding languages under my belt. I use Unraid because I found it user friendly for a newb like me. The most important skills I needed were good data backup habits just in case I messed something up, a willingness to read and learn, and the persistence to try more than once.
Is Acrobat the only pdf reader with active script support? For example, do the common browsers which can also open pdfs not support the same things?
I don’t think it has to do with opening a PDF in Adobe, but okay.
I don’t think it’s a watch list so much as it is a database, like IMDb.
PDFs have been an attack vector for a while actually.
For fuck’s sake.
