  • It was that he attempted to resign, was told no by the Governor, then lost his re-election, and killed himself. Basically, he got what he wanted in the first place by not being reelected, but he killed himself anyway. He was the defendant in a wrongful termination suit that may have something to do with his suicide, depending on what comes to light from that. If a guilty verdict was something that could potentially affect his pension, he might have pulled a Bud Dweyer and killed himself so his family could still collect before it was taken away from him. There could also be other things that were simmering away in the background that haven’t come to light at all. It’s just a very strange state of affairs to get what you want, and then kill yourself the day you get it. If it had been several months from now, I could see otherwise, but he killed himself on the last day in the office. If it isn’t a statement, then I don’t know what is.

  • The whole movie is fucking incredible. One of my favorite lines from it is, “I’ve got better things to do tonight than die.” There is a whole other scene where they are getting slaughtered in a space battle and one of the Autobots, Arcee, says, “Cup and Hotrod just bought it,” and Ultra Magnus just dead eyes, “I can’t deal with that now.” The movie is fucking hardcore. It was my own version of Saving Private Ryan as a kid.

Fun fact, Stan Bush’s “The Touch” was originally going to be the theme of the Stallone film Cobra. If you look up the lyrics, you can see that it was specifically written for the other film.

  • Everyone does everything to enrich themselves. The motivation for all life is to feel good. Sometimes money makes you feel good. Sometimes sex makes you feel good. Sometimes doing the right thing makes you feel good. In any situation, any person is going to be making the decision they make based on what will make them feel good. That includes “selfless acts” because even in those the joy of altruism can make a person feel good regardless of the hurt they may endure by their choice.

The key is finding people that feel good for doing good things. No one is perfect, but some people try harder than others. And don’t put them on a pedestal. If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that our idols are just as bad as the rest of us.
