TL;DR
- Google is adding an additional layer of security when installing an APK or updating an app through an APK.
- A PIN or biometric authentication will now be required in certain cases.
- This will be the case for APKs that Google thinks are malicious or didn’t come from the Play Store.

I see they’re looking to kill F-Droid.

It’s a good thing nothing malicious comes from the Play Store… we are totally safe…
I hope it is optional. Otherwise it makes sideloading more cumbersome for power users.
If it is a feature of play protect then you should still be able to opt out of it.
Google, add the same security layer to the Play Store if you care about security very much.
Oh well… interesting to see how this slides further down. Might be the push Linux phones need. I think my current phone will be the last android I will have
The push that non-Android and iOS phones need are apps.
And decent hardware, working out of the box and plenty of other thing I assume…
