Dungeons and Dragons Online uses this joke. Plays out between two gargoyles and, if you don’t interrupt them, they start fighting each other, leaving you free to just move on.

I like the story about the barbarian brutally murdering one of the riddle guards and asking the other one “is he dead?”

I like this one from Discworld:

“Hang on,” said Casanunda, “I think I’ve worked it out. One question, right?”

      “Yes,” said Ponder, relieved.

“And he can ask either guard?”

      “Yes.”

“Oh, right. Well, in that case he goes up to the smallest guard and says, Tell me which is the door to freedom if you don’t want to see the colour of your kidneys and incidentally I’m walking through it behind you, so if you’re trying for the Mr. Clever Award just remember who’s going through it first.'”

      “No, no, no!”

“Sounds logical to me,” said Ridcully “Very good thinking.”

“But you haven’t got a weapon!”

“Yes I have. I wrested it from the guard while he was considering the question,” said Casanunda.

“Clever,” said Ridcully. “Now that, Mr. Stibbons, is logical thought".

This setup really doesn’t work when it’s one of the door-guards that’s telling you the rules, since how do you know that they’re not lying when they do that? There needs to be a reliable third party there to set things up. Labyrinth fucked this up.

      Labyrinth fucked this up.

Yes? No? Depends on how you look at it? They absolutely fucked up the setup if they wanted to present the riddle properly, but fucking it up was kinda the point of the scene in context (which is extra-meta when you think about it). Rewatch the scene.

The whole context of the scene was that the labyrinth isn’t really fair. Her navigational marks were being changed, walls were moving, and now she encounters this riddle that the riddle-givers screw up in delivery and explicitly acknowledge they don’t really understand, and even after figuring out the “correct” answer it doesn’t actually matter So yes, Labyrinth fucked this up, but it was pretty clearly intentional, and the scene worked as intended.
